Princess Sumaya Opens the 15th Annual Wings of Hope Basketball Tournament On Thursday, 28 November 2024, Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan officially opened the 15th Annual Wings of Hope Basketball Tournament at Amman Baccalaureate School (ABS).
This year’s tournament featured teams from seven schools in Amman, two Ministry of Education district teams from Irbid and Zarqa, and, for the first time, the Wings of Hope team, a collaborative effort involving ABS students and participants from the Wings of Hope programme.
The opening ceremony was a vibrant and moving event. It included a traditional Jordanian debkeolleyball, and track and field at ABS.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Ayman left an enduring legacy of kindness, humility, and sportsmanship. The Wings of Hope Basketball Tournament continues to celebrate these values, bringing young athletes together in his honour to foster teamwork, perseverance, and unity. It included a traditional Jordanian debke, school parades, and an exhibition match between the ABS U12 Team and the Wings of Hope U12 Team. The atmosphere was filled with energy and camaraderie as students, families, and educators celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and community.
Princess Sumaya delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on the importance of sports as a bridge between communities and a platform to nurture resilience and friendship. She was joined by ABS School Principal Mr. Fiyaz Ahmed; Yazan Muasher, a Wings of Hope board member and Ayman’s youngest brother; and Coach Omar Abdalla, Dean of Student Engagement and Director of Athletics.
Each speaker shared their thoughts on the profound impact of the tournament and the values it continues to inspire. The Wings of Hope Basketball Tournament is more than a competition; it is a living tribute to the late Ayman’s legacy.
